Gladys Knight is an American singer, songwriter, author, actress, humanitarian and businesswoman, that is also known as the "Empress of Soul."

Here are a few interesting facts you may not know about Gladys Knight:

1. Gladys Knight got her first break in 1952, when she was only 7 years old. She then appeared on the television talent contest "Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour" and won the contest.

2. Gladys Knight and the Pips were a family group. The Pips included Merald "Bubba" Knight (brother of Gladys) and Edward Patten and William Guest (cousins of Gladys).

3. In 1997, Gladys Knight joined the Church of Latter Day Saints, and in 2002, she founded Saints Unified Voices, which performs at LDS events.

Gladys Knight has scored two No.1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 with the song "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "That's What Friends Are For." She also had eleven No.1 R&B singles, and six No.1 R&B albums.

Knight has won seven Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with The Pips. She also recorded the song "Licence to Kill", which was the theme song for the 1989 James Bond film and is also part of the list of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, done by Rolling Stone magazine.
