Enjoy!
Eddy Grant (real name: Edmond Montague Grant) is a Guyanese-British musician, and a founding member of the band, the Equals, one of UK's first racially integrated pop groups. Grant is also known for his successful solo career that includes the platinum single "Electric Avenue".
Most American listeners didn't read much into the lyrics of the song "Electric Avenue", but Grant claims that the song is actually a serious one. "Electric Avenue" refers to a real place in London, and tells the story of a poor man who beholds the things in life that he could never achieve.
Electric Avenue is a shopping area in the Brixton section of London, named because it was the first street in the area that got electric lights.
