Ed Sheeran is an English singer, songwriter, actor, guitarist and record producer.
Sheeran sang in a church choir with his mother from the age of 4, and got his first guitar from his uncle as a gift. He initially taught himself, before deciding to to go and have proper music lessons.
When Ed Sheeran was 11 years old, he went to see Damien Rice perform an intimate gig in Ireland. Sheeran met with Rice in a bar after the performance and said that it was meeting Rice that convinced him to pursue music. Sheeran remains a fan of the musician and even has a tatto of Damien Rice's name on his arm.
Sheeran's debut album was released on September 2011, where it wnt to the No.1 spot on the UK and Australian charts and also reached the No.5 spot in the US. The album has since been certified seven-times platinum in the UK.
The album contains the single "The A Team", which won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. In 2012, Ed Sheeran also won the Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act and the song "The A Team" was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
Sheeran's next albums also gained commercial success as his second album, X, peaked at No.1 in the UK and the US charts and his third album, ÷, debuted at the top of the UK, US and other major markets.
Ed Sheeran has sold over 26 million albums and 100 million singles all over the world, which makes him one of the world's best-selling music artists. Also, two of Sheeran's albums are featured in the list of the best-selling albums in UK chart history: The album x at No.20, and the album ÷ at No.34.
