Enjoy!
Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band that was formed in 1985 by John Myung, John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy while they attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and were first known as Majesty.
They eventually decided to quit their studies in order to concentrate further on the band, which would ultimately become Dream Theater. The band has went through a number of lineup changes, but the three original members remained together in the band, along with Jordan Rudess and James LaBrie until the year 2010, that's when Mike Portnoy decided to leave the band.
Dream Theater is well known for their technical proficiency of its instrumentalists, which earned them many awards from music instruction magazines. Guitarist John Petrucci has been named as the third player on the G3 tour six times, more than any invited players.
Dream Theater consider themselves a "progressive metal" band, as Mike Portnoy once said in an interview that they are a cross between progressive rock and heavy metal.
He said that they have their progressive side, which grew up with Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush, and Genesis and there's also the metal side which grew up with Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. To his words, if you put it all in a blender, that's exactly what Dream Theater is.
As of 2011, the band has sold more than 12 million records all over the world.
