Enjoy!
Don McLean is an American singer and songwriter who is best known for his song "American Pie" from 1971. The song reached the No.2 spot on the UK chart and topped the US chart. It stayed there for four weeks in 1972, and was also a hit song for Madonna in the year 2000.
According to Don McLean, the song was originally inspired by the death of Buddy Holly. The lyrics from the song "The day the music died", is February 3, 1959, when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper were all killed in a plane crash after a concert.
Don McLean wrote the song from his memories of the event, and printed on the back of the album cover was the sentence: "Dedicate to Buddy Holly."
In 2004, Don McLean was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
