Enjoy!
De La Soul is an American hip hop trio that was formed in the Amityville area of Long Island, New York in 1987 and consist of Posdnuos, Trugoy and Maseo.
The band is best known for their quirky lyrics, eclectic sampling and their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap and alternative hip hop subgenres.
The three formed the group in high school and caught the attention of producer Prince Paul with a demo tape of the song "Plug Tunin'". Their debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, introduced the trio's concept of the "D.A.I.S.Y. Age" philosophy (D.A.I.S.Y stands for "Da inner sound ya'll"), referring to inner consciousness.
It's all about being yourself, doing your own thing and not ever being afraid to do your own thing. The trio's preference for peace signs and flowers, along with their penchant for large items of jewelry, led to their music being branded as "Hippy-Hop."
In 2006, De La Soul won a Grammy Award for their collaboration with Gorillaz on the single "Feel Good Inc." In 2016, the group released their 9th studio album, And the Anonymous Nobody, and it is said that the tracks on the album are the result of multiple improvised jam sessions. The album also features guest appearances from musicians and artists like: David Byrne, 2 Chainz, Damon Albarn, Snoop Dogg and Little Dragon.
