Creedence Clearwater Revival (alsoreferred to as CCR) was an American rock band that was formed in 1967 in El Cerrito, California. The band was active during the late 1960s and early 1970s and consisted of John Fogerty (lead vocals, lead guitar, primary songwriter), Tom Fogerty (guitar), Stu Cook (bass) and Doug Clifford (drums).
The band's musical style consisted of swamp rock, roots rock, blues rock, and Southern rock style. One of their most known songs is "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?" and it is John Fogerty's take on the immenent departure of his brother Tom from the band, and the overall tension in the band at a time when they should have been enjoying their success.
The line in the song "I want to know - have you ever seen the rain comin' down on a sunny day?" refers to Tom leaving the band while they were at their commercial success. The flip side of the single, "Hey Tonight," is John Fogerty reassuring the band that all would go well despite the adversity.
The band's music is still a staple of US radio airplay. Overall, Creedence Clearwater Revival has sold 28 million records in the US alone. Rolling Stone magazine ranks the band on the 82nd spot on their list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
