Chicago is an American rock band that as formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1967. At their beginning in 1968, they were known as the Chicago Transit Authority, but then decided to shorten the band's name to Chicago in 1970.
The beginning of the band's music career was more political oriented, as they wrote politically charged rock music, but later decided to move to a softer sound, thus successfully generating several hit ballads.
Just like The Doors, Chicago too got a regular gig at the Whisky A Go Go club in Los Angeles. They played there in 1968 on Sunday and Monday nights and it was there where the great Jimi Hendrix found them and brought them on tour as his opening act for a few shows in 1969.
Chicago were very successful during the 1970s and 1980s and scored many hit songs during that time. In 1971, they even sold out Carnegie Hall for a whole week, and became the first rock act to do so.
Since at least 2008, Billboard has shown Chicago to be the "greatest of all time" American band in singles chart success and since 2015 the "greatest of all time" American band in album chart success as well. They have sold over 100 million records all over the world.
To this day, Chicago has sold more than 40 million records in the USA alone, having 23 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums. They have had 5 consecutive No.1 albums on the Billboard 200 and also 20 top-ten singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2016, Chicago were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2017, original band members Robert Lamm, Peter Cetera and James Pankow were elected to the Songwriters Hall of Fame for their songwriting efforts as members of the band.

Chicago vocalist, Peter Cetera, wrote the song "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" along with David Foster, who also played piano on the track.
The song finds Cetera trying desperately to hold on to a relationship that has fizzled out, promising to make up for his indiscretions and playing the "we've been through so much card."
David Foster worked on a similar song for Earth, Wind & Fire a few years before in "After The Love Has Gone."
