Boney M. was a Euro-Caribbean vocal group that was formed in 1976 by Frank Farian, a German record producer . They were originally based in West Germany and cosisted of Marcia Barrett and Liz Mitchell from Jamaica, Bobby Farrell, a Dutch singer with Aruban ancestry and Maizie Williams from Montserratand.
One of Boney M's most successful international hits is the song "Ma Baker" which is based on Kate Baker. She married her husband George in 1892 and bore him 4 sons who became gangsters in the fashion of Bonny & Clyde.
In Boney M's song, she is portrayed as the leader of the Barker-Karpis gang, but in reality she was actually more of an accessory to the crimes of her sons. She was killed in January 1935 by the FBI along with her son Fred near Ocklawaha, Florida.
Boney M. has sold over 80 million records worldwide and is known for their international hits: "Ma Baker", "Daddy Cool", "Mary's Boy Child – Oh My Lord", "Rivers of Babylon" and "Rasputin."
