Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American rock band, Blondie.
Enjoy!
Blondie is an American rock band that was formed in 1974 by Debbie Harry (vocals) and Chris Stein (guitar). They were a pioneer in the early American new wave and punk scenes of the mid-late 1970s.
The first two albums of Blondie contained strong elements of these genres, and were very successful in the UK and Australia, but was considered as an underground band in the US, that until they released their 1978 album, Parallel Lines.
Blondie released several singles that became great hits, including: "The Tide Is High", "Heart of Glass", "Rapture" and "Call Me". Our interesting fact of the day is about "Call Me", one of the band's biggest hits.
The fact is, that the song "Call Me" wasn't meant for Blondie at all. You see, Giorgio Morooder originally wrote this song for Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac), but instead finished it with Blondie, which later became a huge hit and topped the charts. Somehow, we have a feeling that even if Nicks would have recorded it, the song would have topped the charts as well, but good for Blondie.
Blondie has sold 40 million records all over the world and are still kicking strong and touring worldwide. In 2006, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
