Arthur Brown is an English rock singer and songwriter. He is best known for his flamboyant theatrical performances, and his powerful, wide-ranging operatic voice.
Arthur Brown influenced a lot of musicians due to his operatic vocal style, wild stage persona and concepts. He is considered a pioneer when it comes to progressive rock and shock rock.
One of his biggest and most known songs is "Fire", which we will discuss about right now. The song "Fire" is the only chart entry by Arthur Brown, topping the UK chart and reaching the No.2 spot on the US chart.
Arthur Brown grew up in England after WWII and spent a lot of his time around people whose lives were destroyed by the war. When Brown started making music, instead of writing about cars, girls or relationships, he came up with a concept of an inner journey, developing a story about a man who faces his demons and heading into a figurative fire.
The song "Fire" is a story about a man facing up to his past. It runs 2:52 minutes, and with the ear-catching spoken intro, this song was a tasty, digestible slice of a much more complex work.
Arthur Brown has also been the lead singer of various band, among them are the Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Kingdom Come. He later started his own solo career and collaborated with acts and musicians like the Who, Hawkwind, Klaus Schulze, Frank Zappa and Jimi Hendrix.
