Arcade Fire is a Canadian indie rock band that was formed in Montreal, Quebec in 2001. The band consists of Win Butler and Régine Chassagne (husband and wife), William Butler (Win's younger brother), Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury and Jeremy Gara. The current touring line-up of the band also includes former member Sarah Neufeld, percussionist Tiwill Duprate and saxophonist Stuart Bogie.
Arcade Fire were named after a story that Win Butler was told about an arcade being set alight in Exeter, Canada.
Each member of Arcade Fire plays multiple instruments both in the studio and on stage during live shows. Some of the instruments that can be heard are: violin, drums, bass, guitars, hurdy gurdy, cello, French horn, cymbals, xylophone, harp and accordion.
During live shows and events, band members sometimes climb around the stage using parts of the set and venue as instruments.
Arcade Fire has been described as indie rock, art rock, dance-rock, and baroque pop. All of their studio albums have received nominations for Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammy Awards, and to this day, the band had won once with their album The Suburbs for Album of The Year.
