America is an American rock band that was formed in 1970 in England. The band consists of Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley, when in the past, Dan Peek was also a band member. The three met as sons of US Air Force personnel were stationed in London, and there they began to perform live.

America were very popular during the 1970s and was famous for the trio's close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk rock sound. They released albums and singles that became to be hits, and many of the band's songs were played on pop and soft rock stations.

One of America's most sucessful and known songs to date is "A Horse with No Name" and this is also our interesting fact of the day. The song tells a rather abstruse tale, about a trip through the desert.

While the desert's landscape is unforgiving, the singer also finds comfort in that scenario. The horse in the song, represents a means of entering a place of tranquility, and this tranquil place was best represented by the desert.

America has won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 15th Annual Grammy Awards, and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. You can also find their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
