Alison Moyet (real name: Geneviève Alison Jane Moyet) is an English singer, songwriter and performer noted for her bluesy contralto voice.
Moyet left school when she was 16 years old and began working as a shop assistant and at the same time trained as a piano tuner. She was involved in a number of pub rock, punk rock and blues bands in the South East Essex area during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
In 1982, when Alison Moyet was 21 years old, her mainstream pop career began with the formation of the synthpop duo Yazoo, along with Vince Clarke (former Depeche Mode member).
In 1983, Vince Clarke decided to disband Yazoo and Moyet began her successful solo career in 1984, releasing hit songs such as: "Love Resurrection", "All Cried Out", "Invisible" and more.
All 9 of Moyet's studio albums and 3 of her compilation albums have reached the Top 30 UK Album Chart, with 2 of her albums topping the chart. She has also achieved 9 Top 30 singles and 5 Top 10 hits in the UK Singles Chart.
During her music career, Alison Moyet has sold 23 million records in the UK, selling more than a million singles.
