Alice in Chains is an American rock band that was formed in 1987 by Jerry Cantrell (vocals and guitar) and Sean Kinney (drums), in Seattle, Washington. They then recruited Layne Staley (lead vocals) and Mike Starr (bass).

Our interesting fact of the day tells an amusing story about guitarist, Jerry Cantrell. You see, Cantrell goes on extensive hunting trips, sometimes even for days.

When Alice in Chains was touring with Van Halen in 1991, they had a few weeks off in November before the tour resumed in Memphis on December 2.

Alice in Chains did not make that show, because Cantrell was on a hunting trip and forgot that November had only 30 days. In order to make sure that such an inccident won't happen again, Columbia Records gave Cantrell a calendar.

Jerry Cantrell is still part of the band to this day and they are going strong with worldwide tours and an upcoming new album in 2018.

The song "No Excuses" by Alice in Chains is about lead singer Layne Staley's battle to overcome his heroin addiction. The band even became inactive 2 years later, when Staley's drug problem became too troublesome.

"No Excuses" was not released as a single, but received a lot of airplay before the EP was released. The title of the EP was taken from a high school science project done by guitarist Jerry Cantrell.

The song "Would?" by Alice in Chains is about going through rehab and it aftermath. The last part of the lyrics in the song wonders if the future is any more promising.

Guitarist Jerry Cantrell wrote the song "Would?" for Andrew Wood, the late lead singer of Mother Love Bone, who died of a heroin overdose in 1990.

Jerry Cantrell sang the intro on the song. Lead singer Layne Staley had to convince Cantrell to do it.
