Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about Swedish pop group, Ace of Base.
Enjoy!
Ace of Base was a Swedish pop group that was active between the years 1990-2012. Originally, the band consisted of Ulf Ekberg and three siblings: Linn Berggren, Jonas Berggren and Jenny Berggren.
Many fans actually get confused about the name of the band, Ace of Base, as they assume that it must be "Bass" as in the musical term. In fact, the band members decided to pick the name Ace of Base because nobody could pronounce their name, and also because they played in a basement.
Ulf Ekberg said that their music was influenced from acts and bands like Depeche Mode, OMD, Kraftwerk, Eurythmics and Human League. Both Katy Perry and Lady Gaga admitted that Ace of Base is one of their influences.
Over the course of their music career, Ace of Base have released 4 studio albums between and sold over 30 million copies all over the world, which makes the band the third-most successful Swedish band of all time, after ABBA and Roxette.
Ace of Base sent their demo tape of the song "All That She Wants" to Swedish producer, Denniz Pop, who hated the song and refused to produce it.
Hoever, a funny thing happened as the tape got stuck in his car's tape deck and every morning, Denniz had to listen to the song on his way to work, and every morning he heard something new in it.
Eventually, Denniz Pop edited the song, and one of the things he did was to move the whistling melody to the introduction of the song, which was originally heard at the end. This made the song instantly recognizable.
