Whether they are useful or useless it doesn't really matter, as long as they are interesting and believe me, they are. So, let's dig in and learn 101 new music facts in 4 parts, just to let our brains the time to rest and recuperate. This is part 3...

51. John Lee Hooker released more than 100 singles between the years 1948-1960.

 

52. Francis Rossi of Status Quo and Noel Gallagher of Oasis both share a birthday on May 29.

 

53. The intro to Knock on Wood by Eddie Floyd is the same as the intro to In The Midnight Hour, only the chord progression is played backwards. Both songs were actually co-written by guitarist Steve Cropper.

 

54. Bootsy Collins who's a funk bass legend, appears in the video for Deee-Lite's dance anthem Groove Is In The Heart, but his contribution is only additional vocals.

 

55. The drum machine part on the recording of Blue Monday by New Order acknowledged as the best-selling 12-inch single of all time, had to be reprogrammed because the original version was lost when the power lead was knocked out. The band claims that the first beat was actually much better, but I guess we'll never know. Still, it's a good beat…

 

56. Martin's OM-28 John Mayer signature acoustic was limited to a production run of 404. It's not an error code on the web - it's actually the area code of his hometown in Atlanta.

 

57. Snow Patrol's original name was Polar Bear, but they decided to change the name in 1995.

 

58. Stevie Wonder lost his sense of smell partially in 1973 as a result of a car crash.

 

59. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd recorded the last two albums of the band on his Surrey, UK, houseboat studio, the Astoria. This boat can accommodate a-90 piece orchestra on the top deck and it was built by Fred Karno, the manager of Charlie Chaplin and the "inventor" of the custard-pie-in-the-face gag.

 

60. It is said that Michael Jackson have spent 3 weeks working on Billie Jean's bassline.

 

61. Lemmy of Motherhead's first band were called The Rockin' Vickers. They were the first band from Britain to play behind the so-called "Iron Curtain" when they visited Yugoslavia in 1965.

 

62. The third album of Arab Strap is called "Elephant Shoe", which is a phrase mumbled by nervous teenagers who don't want to say "I love you" to girls. If you try and say the phrase out loud, you'll see that it makes the same mouth shapes. How clever is that?

 

63. Orville Gibson, the founder of The Gibson Guitar Corporation in Kalamazoo, Michigan in the late 1890s, registered only one design patent. This patent is registered for the first archtop mandolins he made.

 

64. Neil Young skipped most of Crosby, Stills and Nash's acoustic set, but he did play their electric set. On the Woodstock LP you can hear Young's Sea of Madness but it wasn't actually filmed there. It was recorded about a month later at the Fillmore East.

 

65. In The Simpsons episode "Homer The Moe", REM play their song "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)." Go on, check for yourself I kid you not.

 

66. Island Records was founded in 1959 by Chris Blackwell and Graeme Goodall in Jamaica. The label was named after Alec Waugh's novel, "Island In The Sun" from 1955. The company moved in 1962 to the UK and until Blackwell sold the label in 1989 to PolyGram, it was the largest indie record label in history.

 

67. The house of Elvis Presley (Graceland) was named after original owner SE Toof's daughter, Grace. This house is the second most visited private residence in the US, outside the White House.

 

68. Korg, which was founded in Japan by Tsutomu Kato and Tadashi Osanai in 1962, was originally known as Keio Electronic Laboratories because its fledgling offices were located near the Keio train line in Tokyo, Japan. Also, Keio can be formed when combining the first letters of Kato and Osanai.

 

69. When John Peel, Liverpool FC fan married his girlfriend Sheila "The Pig" Gilhooly in August of 1974, they walked down the aisle to the song "You'll Never Walk Alone" which is the anthem of Liverpool FC fans. Other than that, Peel was dressed in Liverpool red and their sheepdog Woggle served as bridesmaid.

 

70. Richard David James, best known by his stage name Aphex Twin was born in Limerick, Ireland, but later on his parents relocated to Lanner, Cornwall, England. David's first two DJ residencies as a teenager were at The Shire Horse in St Ives and The Bowgie Inn in Crantock. These days, he records under several aliases.

 

71. Before settling on Dave Grohl as the drummer for Nirvana, the band went through 5 different drummers: Aaron Burckhard (1987-1988), Dale Crover (1988 and 1990), Dave Foster (1988), Chad Channing (1988-1990) and Dan Peters (1990). These days, Dave Grohl is the front man of Foo Fighters.

 

72. Did you know that the harmonica is the world's best-selling musical instrument? Well, now you know. It's not the guitar, it's not the drums, it's the harmonica…

 

73. Angel And The Snake's Debbie Harry renamed her band Blondie for 2 reasons. The first is builders wolf-whistling "Hey, Blondie!" at her. The second reason is that they were named after Hitler's German Shepherd dog, Blondi.

 

74. Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit has a dog called Bizkit. It is a pet bulldog.

 

75. Gene Simmons' Rock school champion Lil' Chris went to the same high school as Justin and Daniel Hawkins (The Darkness) in Lowestoft, England.
