1965: The Who made their first appearance on UK TV show Ready Steady Go! In order to project the desired image, the audience which was hand-picked, consisted only of teens which were dressed in the current Mod fashion.

1968: Singer of The Doors, Jim Morrison, was arrested and charged with public drunkenness after he harassed a security guard at a Las Vegas adult movie theatre.

 

1977: 'Animals', the tenth studio album by Pink Floyd, entered the UK charts at the No.2 spot. The sleeve concept was that of Roger Waters, who lived at the time near Clapham Common, as he regularly used to drive past Battersea Power Station. A view of the imposing but disused former power station building was chosen for the album's cover image, complete with massive inflatable pig which was suspended between two of the towers.

1978: 'Rumours' album by Fleetwood Mac topped the UK album chart. It was also on the No.1 spot in the US. The album sold more than 45 million copies world-wide and spent over 440 weeks on the UK chart.

1984: Frankie Goes To Hollywood started a five-week run at the top of the UK singles chart with 'Relax!' BBC Radio 1 DJ Mike Read expressed on air his distaste for both the record's suggestive sleeve and its lyrics, he refused to play the record, not knowing that the BBC had already decided that the song was not to be played on the BBC anyway. The song which was produced by Trevor Horn stayed on the chart for 48 weeks.

 

1984: After a Motley Crue show in Buffalo, New York, Tommy Lee found out backstage that his girlfriend has posed for the current issue of Penthouse magazine without him knowing about it. He can to know about it after a fan commented on the pictures. Lee punched the fan unconscious with one hit. Later, band's manager, Doug Thaler, was able to convince the fan not to press charges against Lee or the band.

1985: Recordings for We Are The World, the US equivalent of Band Aid took place at A&M Studios in Hollywood. Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, the impressive cast of stars included: Bruce Springsteen, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Bob Dylan, Daryl Hall, John Oates, Cyndi Lauper, Steve Perry and Bob Geldof.

 

1990: Paula Abdul started a 10-week run at the top of the US album chart with 'Forever Your Girl'. She spent 64 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 before she reached the number one spot, which made it the longest time for an album to reach the number one spot.

 

2009: Billy Powell, the keyboard player of Lynyrd Skynyrd, died at the age of 56 of a suspected heart attack in Florida. He called police and said that he was having trouble breathing. Emergency services tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead an hour later. He had missed his doctor's appointment on the day before his death, an appointment that was for a checkup on his heart. Powell also played piano on Kid Rock's 'All Summer Long' (which sampled the Lynyrd Skynyrd song 'Sweet Home Alabama').

2015: Geezer Butler, the bassist of Black Sabbath, was arrested after officers were called to the Corkscrew Saloon on the Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley National Park, California. Butler was arrested for misdemeanour assault, public intoxication and vandalism after a fight broke out in the bar.
